CT Colonography (virtual colonoscopy)
What is CT Colonography?
CT Colonography is the latest innovation in the non-invasive evaluation of the large
intestine (colon) for screening and diagnosis of polyps and cancers.
CT Colonography uses a high-resolution computed tomography (CT) scanning and computer
virtual reality software to look inside the body.
What are the advantages of CT Colonography?
1. CT Colonography is well tolerated by the patient and does not require sedation.
The patient may drive home immediately after the study.
2. CT Colonography is less invasive and it is considered safer than traditional
colonoscopy, primarily because there is an extremely low risk for colonic perforation
or other bowel damage.
3. CT Colonography can be performed on patients who are unable to complete
traditional colonoscopy.
4. CT Colonography is better accepted by patients over traditional colonoscopy.
